Castellammare di Stabia is a seaside resort to the south of Naples with excellent view to Mount Vesuvius. The south end is a wide coast unsuitable for swimming, but there is a nice public beach just a little to the north of railway station. The town has a beautiful promenade with palms, as well as ancient ruins of the Roman settlement, which, like Pompeii, was destroyed by volcano in AD 79. It makes sense to climb the
Monte Faito by cable road to get good view to the Gulf of Naples. Excellent thermal SPA was the main local attraction, but now it is closed. Shore and seabed: sand, pebble.
