Chwaka beach
Ultimate guide (November 2024)
Chwaka is a beach in the southwest of Chwaka Bay,
Zanzibar island, Tanzania. The village itself is not very interesting. But a little further to the north, there are two beachfront hotels with scenic views featuring palms and white sand. Unfortunately, swimming is impossible even at high tide. First, the depth is too shallow. Second, the bottom is made rather of mud, but not sand. So the hotel offers a free boat three times a week to "paradise beach" located somewhere else. Shore and seabed: sand.

Hotels [edit]
There are only two hotels: the four-star
Filao Beach Zanzibar and the three-star
Maars Resort. The last one is not presented in the international booking systems.
How to get there [edit]
Fly to
Zanzibar international airport (ZNZ). Next hire a taxi.
At the current time, there are many direct flights to Zanzibar. So connections flight via Dar es Salaam makes sense only in case, if you plan a safari on the mainland.
When to go [edit]
Feel free to relax in Zanzibar any time of year - except for the pronounced rainy season in April.
