Nevertheless, some relatively budget accommodation options are also available. These are mainly hostels and private guesthouses.

The poorest travelers, as well as extremals can stay in one of the favelas. Despite the madness of this idea, there are examples when the tourists lived in favela without any troubles.

Fly to Rio de Janeiro International Airport (GIG). Next hire a taxi. Never catch a taxi on the street! You may just go to the nearest cafe or hotel, and ask to call for a taxi.

Rio is a fairly dangerous city, - like everywhere in Latin America. Robberies, murders and rapes - all of these are the reality, which you are likely to encounter.

Yes, there are people, who say that they've been in Rio for a hundred times and have not seen anything like that. It only means that they are very lucky.

Does this mean that we shouldn't go to Rio? Of course not! But you have to take enough money for a good hotel in a good district and for a taxi.
