Dhigurah is a local island in South Ari atoll, Maldives. This is one of the best islands in the country, but not overcrowded yet. The island is very long with a perfect secluded beach in the south, ending with a gorgeous sandspit. Women can swim in a bikini, though not everywhere. It is one of the best places in the Maldives to dive with whale sharks, while the snorkeling on the house reef is also good. The island has cheap cafe, shops and few independent dive centers, giving great oportunities to reduce your expenses. In a theory, you can have a vacation comparable with Thailand by costs, getting the real Maldives in its best. Shore and seabed: sand.

TME Retreats Dhigurah is the most popular hotel on the island. Room's rates start from US$90 per night including all taxes. Of course, it is far from upscale rasort, but for that money this is a great deal for budget travelers, many of whom become loyal returners.

Fly to
Male international airport (MLE). Next get to
Mahibadhoo island by
MTCC ferry -
route 307. It takes 4 hours 15 minutes, ticket price is about US$5 per way:
- departure from Male at 9:00 on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday;
- departure from Mahibadhoo island at 10:30 on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
Next take
ferry #308 to Dhigurah island. Ferry takes 1 hour 40 minutes per way, and runs every day except Friday:
- departure from Mahibadhoo island at 13:45;
- departure from Dhigurah island at 8:20.
It is also possible to get fast from Male to Dhigurah by public speedboat or even by seaplane, but fares are very expensive, of course. Ask your hotel about all available transportation options.
When to go [edit]
The best time for a beach holiday on the island of Dhigurah is a dry season from January to April. The rest of the time, it is the rainy season, which means that it will be two, maximum three sunny days during a week.
