Haad Yao is a great beach in the northwest of Phangan island, Thailand. This is the longest beach on the island, as well as one of the most beautiful. There is white sand ashore, picturesque palms and many cafes. There is also good choice of cheap, but good hotels. Unfortunately, sea bottom is somewhat muddy. But it's like that everywhere in Phangan. In addition, the beach area is slightly overdeveloped with hotels. But this is the reason, why you can get such cheap prices. Shore and seabed: sand.

Hotels [edit]
In Haad Yao, you can rent an excellent beachfront hotel for as low as US$50 per night. If you are ready to pay more, you can even expect a decent villa (though not near the water's edge). And if you walk a little further away from the coastline, there are a lot of very cheap accommodation options - especially during the low season.
How to get there [edit]
You may get from Bangkok to Phangan island by
Lomprayah high-speed catamaran. But the best is to fly to Samui island, and next get by ferry from Maenam beach to Phangan island.
There are two options to fly from Bangkok to Samui:
1. Direct flight to
Samui Airport (USM). This way is most convenient, but also the most expensive.
2. Fly to
Surat Thani airport (URT) by
AirAsia low-coster. Then get by taxi (1200 bahts) to
Donsak Pier. Then get to Samui by any ferry (
Raja ferry is the best, but other services are also good). It is
the best value for money way of getting to Koh Samui, but takes a little longer time, as the road from Suratthani airport to Samui takes a few hours.
When to go [edit]
The best time for a beach holiday in Pha-ngan island is a dry season from January to April, as well as second dry season from June to September.
