Mae Haad is a beach in the north-west of
Phangan island, Thailand. There are perfect tropical views everywhere. In the north, there is also notable sand spit coming to uninhabited island of
Koh Ma. As for the swimming, it is rather mediocre. The water is somewhat green, while sea bottom is mostly rocky. However, there are also few sandy entries into the water, while the depth is sufficient for swimming. Good snorkeling is possible on the house reef. Shore and seabed: sand, stones.

Hotels [edit]
Mae Haad has a great choice of beachfront hotels with a swimming pool. Rooms' rates start from as low as US$40 per night. Value for money is the best on the island. Unfortunately, the place is slightly overcrowded.
How to get there [edit]
You may get from Bangkok to Phangan island by
Lomprayah high-speed catamaran. But the best is to fly to Samui island, and next get by ferry from Maenam beach to Phangan island.
There are two options to fly from Bangkok to Samui:
1. Direct flight to
Samui Airport (USM). This way is most convenient, but also the most expensive.
2. Fly to
Surat Thani airport (URT) by
AirAsia low-coster. Then get by taxi (1200 bahts) to
Donsak Pier. Then get to Samui by any ferry (
Raja ferry is the best, but other services are also good). It is
the best value for money way of getting to Koh Samui, but takes a little longer time, as the road from Suratthani airport to Samui takes a few hours.
When to go [edit]
The best time for a beach holiday in Pha-ngan island is a dry season from January to April, as well as second dry season from June to September.
