Meedhoo is a local island on the atoll of
Daalu, Maldives. This is a nice place, but not quite suitable for a beach holiday. Most of the coastline is just a breakwater covered with trash. There is almost no trees, but no mosquitoes as well. In fact, the swimming is possible only on a tiny islet connected with the main island by shallow channel. However, it still makes sense to stay here for a week - taking excursions to the nearby islands. Shore and seabed: sand.

Hotels [edit]
Beach Stay Maldives is a typical guesthouse for a reasonable price (room from US$60 per night). This is quite a decent option to spend a night, - just don't expect palmed beachfront, pools and so on.
How to get there [edit]
Fly to
Maldives international airport (MLE). Next use one of the major transportation options to get to Meedhoo island:
- Public speedboat (3 hours per way) running almost every day (ask your hotel for the actual timetable). The ticket fare is US$100 for the round trip, infants below 2 years old are for free.
- Domestic flight to Villa-Maamigili airport (VAM) - 25 minutes flight and 35 minutes boat. It will be US$275 per person for the round trip including transfer by the hotel's boat.
- Sea plane - 35 minutes, US$520 return, US$310 for children 2-11 years old, free for infants.
When to go [edit]
The best time to relax on the beaches of Meedhoo island is a dry season in the winter half of the year.
