Melia Zanzibar beach
Ultimate guide (November 2024)
Melia Zanzibar is a beach of an iconic resort in the east of
Zanzibar island, Tanzania. While everything is clear with the hotel, the beach itself is not so good. The central and northern areas of the coastline are rocky being suitable for walking only. There is a small good beach to the south - with scenic palms and sun loungers. But there is an ugly village nearby - dirty and poor. So this is exactly the place, where people go "to the hotel", but not to the beach. Shore and seabed: sand, stones.

Hotels [edit]
Melia Zanzibar is a five-star upscale property with rooms' fares starting from US$250 per night (Level is 5-star, but Standard is rather 4-star to be honest). A little to the south, there are also several more cheaper hotels - mostly located around the good beach.
How to get there [edit]
Fly to
Zanzibar international airport (ZNZ). Next hire a taxi.
At the current time, there are many direct flights to Zanzibar. So connections flight via Dar es Salaam makes sense only in case, if you plan a safari on the mainland.
When to go [edit]
Feel free to relax in Zanzibar any time of year - except for the pronounced rainy season in April.
