Monterrico beach

Monterrico - is the most popular beach in Guatemala, mostly packed by locals at weekends. However, the resort becomes popular among foreigners. The main feature of the beach is its black volcanic sand. In addition, small turtles are often released into the ocean, which attracts more tourists. Hotels [edit]

Monterrico hotels are cheap in general. However, the weekend rates are much higher, and it can be difficult to find a room. Therefore it's better to book in advance.

How to get there [edit]

Fly to Guatemala International Airport (GUA). Next take a shuttle minibus to Monterrico. Cheaper but longer way is by bus with few connection changes.

When to go [edit]

The best time to visit Monterrico beach is a dry season from November to April. Also this is period of spectacular thunderstorms.
