Motu Auira is the largest (western) islet of
Maupiti atoll in French Polynesia. It's incredibly beautiful both on the island, as well as in the water. This is a true tropical paradise from a postcard. In the southern area of lagoon, it is possible to wade to the central island. By the way, you can use this feature when stay on the main island - to visit Motu Auira as a day trip. As for the downsides, it is worth to mention bad service at the hotel, as well as stray dogs. The dogs are friendly towards people, but aggressive towards other animals. So sometimes you can see a dog killing a kitten or eating a live stingray in the water. This is very bad attraction, especially if you are with children. Shore and seabed: sand, coral chips.

Hotels [edit]
Pension Auira is the only accommodation option on the motu. There is a campsite, as well as bungalows. You should not take camping anyway, since it's expensive and not comfortable is all respects. And after all, the central island has few good campsites - including great free camping on Terei'a beach.
As for bungalows, these are good enough. But keep in mind, that rooms are quite basic, while kitchen is dirty. The owner Gilbert serves guests depending on his mood. Sometimes service and food can be quite good. In other cases, Gilbert can completely forget about guests for several weeks. So you will be completely on your own, and you'll have to solve all the problems, - including transportation from the airport to motu, as well as searching for food :)
How to get there [edit]
Fly to the
airport of Bora Bora (BOB), next fly to
Maupiti airport (MAU).
There are also direct flights from Tahiti island and even from Raiatea island. Once you are in Maupiti, free boat of Air Tahiti will deliver you to the main island of the atoll. Please also note, that many hotels provide for their guests free transfer from the airport.
When to go [edit]
The best time to travel to Maupiti Atoll is a dry season from April to September. As for the rainy season, it is definitely worth to avoid period from December to February, since average precipitation is about 300 mm that time - meaning a lot of rain!
