Petite Terre beach
Ultimate guide (December 2024)
Petite Terre is a couple of small "paradise" islands (
Terre de Bas and
Terre de Haut) in
Guadeloupe. It becomes overcrowded during a daytime, though number of visitors is limited (maximum 200 people per day). The larger island has a great beach with palms and clear water on shallows. But the key feature of this place is an amazing variety of living creatures. Huge sea turtles, iguanas, rays and reef sharks, - it's just a small list of what you can see there. Unfortunately, like everywhere in the Caribbean, there is a lot of algae on the coastline during the hurricane season from June to October. Shore and seabed: sand, stones.

Hotels [edit]
The only legal accommodation option in Petite Terre is a yacht or just a boat. Any kind of camping is prohibited. As for the main island of Guadeloupe, it may offer a great choice of hotels from US$50 per night.
How to get there [edit]
Fly to
Guadeloupe international airport (PTP). Next get by taxi to
Saint-François town, and take a daily tour to Petite Terre (85 euros per person). The best is to get early in the morning, and to hire a small boat right near the pier, as a huge catamaran usually provide bad service.
When to go [edit]
The best time for a beach holiday in Petite Terre is a dry period from January to June.
