Puerto Colombia is a resort town with
Playa Grande - one of the best beaches in Venezuela. This is a true tropical paradise not far from Caracas - with highest palms and nice sand. So now you know, that there's no need to visit Roques or Margarita. Strong waves most of time is the only problem. But who knows, maybe that's right what you are looking for… Shore and seabed: sand.

Hotels of Puerto Colombia are poorly presented over the Web. The best accommodation options are about US$100 per night. However, you can find a much cheaper room, when get to the town. Try to avoid the weekends, as locals also like this beach.
How to get there [edit]
Fly to
Caracas international airport (CCS). Then get by bus to the town of
Maracay, and next to
Choroni. Once you arrived in town, it is easy just to walk everywhere on your own - including the beach itself.
