Putuoshan island

Putuoshan is a popular tourist island nor far from Shanghai. There is Mount Putuo - one of the Buddist sacred places, as well as many good beaches. There are crowds of tourists - especially in the weekends and national holidays. Shore and seabed: sand. [edit]

It is nessecary to book in advance during the holidays. The rest of time it's not a problem to find a room. The is an information box just in the port, so you may get detailed information on any aspects.

Most of the hotels are located near two main beaches (Hundred Step Beach and Thousand Step Beach) in the east of the island, so in most cases you won't have to look for a beach for a long time.

How to get there [edit]

Fly to Shanghai international airport (PVG). Next take a bus to the Zhoushan island, and next take a boat to the Putuoshan island.

Buses depart from Shanghai Sightseeing Bus Center (4 hours per way) or from Ningbo North bus station (1 hour per way).

You may use shuttle minibuses to spin around the Putuoshan island, but the best is just to walk on your own.

When to go [edit]

The best time for a holiday in the beaches of Shanghai is a warm period from June to September.
