Shambhala is a beach on the southwest coast of Phangan island in Thailand. Probably, this is a great place to stay in a beachfront bungalow, - in an almost perfect tropical paradise and without crowds of tourists. Unlike notorious Pattaya or Phuket :) There are scenic rocks along the edges of the beach - looking like Seychelles. This is also a great spot for sunset watching. It is worth to mention, that if you don't stay in one the local beachfront hotels, most likely you will feel rather uncomfortable here. Because it's not very interesting to sit always near the water's edge. But if you move a little away from the sea, you'll face a totally private hotels' grounds. Shore and seabed: sand.

Hotels [edit]
Shambhala beach hotels are almost not presented in the international booking systems. So the best is just to google for their contacts in the Web, and try to contact the owners directly:
Siam Cookies Cottage,
Ocean Vibes,
Shambhala Bungalows,
Pimmada Hut,
Pornsan Resort and
Kupu Kupu Phangan.
How to get there [edit]
You may get from Bangkok to Phangan island by
Lomprayah high-speed catamaran. But the best is to fly to Samui island, and next get by ferry from Maenam beach to Phangan island.
There are two options to fly from Bangkok to Samui:
1. Direct flight to
Samui Airport (USM). This way is most convenient, but also the most expensive.
2. Fly to
Surat Thani airport (URT) by
AirAsia low-coster. Then get by taxi (1200 bahts) to
Donsak Pier. Then get to Samui by any ferry (
Raja ferry is the best, but other services are also good). It is
the best value for money way of getting to Koh Samui, but takes a little longer time, as the road from Suratthani airport to Samui takes a few hours.
When to go [edit]
The best time for a beach holiday in Pha-ngan island is a dry season from January to April, as well as second dry season from June to September.
