Soneva Jani island
Ultimate guide (November 2024)
Soneva Jani is an upscale island resort in
Noonu atoll, Maldives. As for the beach itself, everything is quite mediocre by the standards of Maldives. Even some local islands have a better beach. Overwater villas don't have sandy bottom, while rocks are painful for shallow swimmers. You might think, that outstanding luxury is a killer feature anyway. But it's not so easy here. The snag fence looks ugly, but not eco. A zigzag pathway over the water is impractical in all respects. While sitting on the floor in the shack bar is not convenient for a modern man. And even an outstanding water cinema is not very good in terms of picture and sound quality. Shore and seabed: sand, stones.

Hotels [edit]
Rooms' fares in Soneva Jani start from US$4000 per night. Since the design is ugly and non-functional, this property is definitely overpriced. They made good attempt to make something unique and beautiful, but they failed.
So this hotel is for those with a lot of money and without sense of taste. If you really want eco-luxury, choose Four Seasons. And besides Four Seasons, there are plenty of more adequate hotels.
How to get there [edit]
Fly to
Maldives international airport (MLE). Next get by a seaplane for about 45 minutes. The flight fare is US$1100 for the round trip (US$550 for child). Please note that most other upscale resorts charge about US$500 for the same flight!
