Unawatuna beach

Unawatuna - the best beach in Sri Lanka island. Unlike most beaches in the country there's almost always no waves in the sea here, so this place is not suitable for surfers, but it's perfect for families with children. Shore and seabed: sand. [edit]

Hotels [edit]

There is a large number of inexpensive hotels near the beach, including some pretty options. However, if you are looking for a luxury beach resort, this place is not for you.

How to get there [edit]

Fly to Colombo International Airport (CMB). Get into Galle town by train (don't buy 3rd class tickets) or by bus. Next, take the bus (20 minutes ride to Unawatuna) or taxi (15 minutes per way). See here extended manual on how to get from airport to the south of country.

When to go [edit]

Dry season lasts from December to March. Also in the summer there is a small dry season - from July to August.
