Veligandu is an island resort in the
North Ari Atoll, Maldives. The island is small, but cozy - with good beaches and snorkeling. Entry into the water is comfortable almost everywhere, but it is hard to access the home reef at low tide as the water is shallow. Shore and seabed: sand.
[edit]
Hotels [edit]
Veligandu Island Resort & Spa is a four star hotel with the lowest room rate of US$400 per night. But in reality the price for most dates start at US$700. Since 2016 the hotel is adult only (18+).
Seaplanes are landing on the west of the island, so it is better to take a bungalow on the east coast, as it's much quieter there.
Water villas are good for snorkellers only, as the bottom is rocky. But it is not common for the Maldives, when overwater bungalows are located on the sand.
Lifehack: It makes sense to take "all inclusive" package, as it includes not only food and drinks, but few excursions as well (but not the most interesting).
How to get there [edit]
Fly to
Male international airport (MLE). Next fly about 20 minutes by hydroplane. The cost of a return transfer is US$320.
If you wish to save, you may take a government ferry to the neighboring
Rasdhoo island (3 hours and US$5 per way), and find some local man with boat to get to Veligandu (from US$50 per boat per way).
When to go [edit]
The best time for a holiday on the beaches of Veligandu island in Maldives is a dry season in the winter half of the year.
