Vermelha is a nice beach near the Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio. You may spend some time in the palm shadow. But it's not safe to swim far into the sea during the low tide. Shore and seabed: sand. [edit]

Few cheap hotels can be found in a walking distance from the beach (Urca district). However, this place is relatively remoted from the most popular beaches of Rio.

Fly to Rio de Janeiro International Airport (GIG). Next hire a taxi. Never catch a taxi on the street! You may just go to the nearest cafe or hotel, and ask to call a taxi for you.

The best time for a beach holiday in Rio de Janeiro is a warm period from October to April.
